Description

Delightfully soft and chewy sugar cookies, perfect for any occasion. An easy recipe for beginners that yields delicious results.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup Unsalted Butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups Granulated Sugar
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 large Egg Yolk
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla Extract
  • 2 1/2 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon Salt
  • Sparkling or Sanding Sugar (for topping)


Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar for about 4 minutes until light and fluffy, scraping down the sides of the bowl.
  2. Add the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla extract, mixing for 1 more minute until well combined.
  3. Gently fold in the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt, being careful not to overmix.
  4. Wrap the dough tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  5. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  6. Roll the chilled dough into balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 9-12 minutes, until the edges are lightly golden but the centers are still soft. Sprinkle with sparkling or sanding sugar immediately after removal from the oven.
  8. Let cool on the baking sheet before enjoying.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container for up to a week. Refrigerate if you wish to keep them fresh longer. Reheat in the microwave for a few seconds as needed.
